Billingsley becomes third Lowry wrestler to win four state championships

For the third time since the 2012 season, the Lowry High School wrestling team has a four-time individual champion.

Beau Billingsley accomplished the feat on Saturday in front of his home crowd at the NIAA State Wrestling Championships att he Winnemucca Event Center.

The Buckaroos had a number of three-time champions, until Jace Billingsley (Beau's cousin) completed the feat in 2012, on his way to becoming the all-time wins leader in state history.

Michael Billingsley (Beau's older brother) won his fourth individual title in 2013 and is now at the Air Force Academy. Beau Billingsley will join him at the Air Force this fall.

Billingsley breezed through his first two opponents, pinning Boulder City's Nelson VanDiest and Desert Pines' Jorge Magana. In the finals, he recorded a 12-3 win over Pahrump Valley's Jon Corrow to finish the year at 44-2.

Billingsley also won the Sierra Nevada Classic this season. He won the state title at 152 pounds his freshman year, then he moved up to 160 and 170 pounds, his sophomore and junior years to win championships in those weight classes.

"I am proud of him," said LHS coach John Brooks. "That is a nice accomplishment to have and a lot of wrestlers have not done that. He has put the work in for the last four years and has been a big part of the program. It is neat that those three kids have won four championships. He deserves it."
