Billboard in Golconda asks for information on missing man, dog

WINNEMUCCA - Officials hope a new billboard near Golconda will spur leads about a Reno man who disappeared eight months ago.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 marked eight months since Patrick Carnes' vehicle was found abandoned at the Pumpernickel Valley off-ramp (exit 205) of Interstate 80. Carnes' green Subaru station wagon was located on the morning of April 14 sitting, unoccupied, in the sage brush on the south side of I-80.

Carnes, 86, a Reno resident, was traveling back to Reno from a trip to Ohio where he was visiting family. Carnes was also traveling with his dog Lucky, an Akita/Lab cross. Lucky is also missing.

An extensive search of the area, along with eight months of extensive investigation, has turned up very little leads in this still open case.

In an effort to generate possible information or calls, Humboldt County Sheriff's Deputy Kathy Green came up with an idea to place a request for help about Carnes on a billboard in the general area of his disappearance. Green worked with Carnes' family on this idea, which has now resulted in the placement of just such a billboard in the Golconda area along I-80.

The billboard, which depicts a picture of Carnes, gives the telephone number of Secret Witness, (775) 623-6969. Anyone with any information is requested to call Secret Witness if they wish to remain anonymous or Undersheriff Curtiss C. Kull at (775) 623-6419.
