Biggest home-grown returns for seventh year

WINNEMUCCA - Hey gardeners! Do you have a zucchini that looks more like a baseball bat than a squash? What about a cantaloupe that would rival a beach ball any day of the week?

If you've got an oversized vegetable or fruit that makes eyes grow wide on account of its size, then we have a contest for you.

The "Biggest Home Grown Contest" will return to this year's Tri-County Fair. This competition is an easy one. Just bring your biggest pumpkin, eggplant or anything else you grew at home to the Winnemucca Events Complex Exhibit Hall with the rest of your Fruits, Vegetables and Crops entries on Thursday, August 29, between noon and 5 p.m.

Let your fair volunteer know you are entering the "Biggest Home Grown Contest" and your entry will be placed in the right category, to do battle against all the other gargantuan crops in the mix.

Prizes will be awarded on Saturday, August 31, at about 6 p.m.

For more information on the "Biggest Home Grown Contest," please visit www.LaborDayFair.com or call the Tri-County Fair & Stampede at (775) 623-5071, ext. 102, or toll free at (800) 962-2638, ext. 102. Information also is available in the 2013 Fair Guide Book.

Copies are available at the Winnemucca Convention Center; the Humboldt County Extension Office; the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce; the Humboldt County Library; the Winnemucca Events Complex office; the Paradise, Orovada and McDermitt post offices; the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce; the Lovelock Chamber of Commerce; or online at www.LaborDayFair.com.[[In-content Ad]]
