Big Wheel Casino job fair to be held on Saturday Eleven staff openings for casino, store

LOVELOCK - Local job seekers are invited to a job fair on Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Golden Gate Auto-Truck Plaza. Applications will be accepted for the Big Wheel Casino and a convenience store soon to open inside the new truck stop under construction at 163 E. Main St. near downtown Lovelock.

Positions to be filled include bartenders, slot technicians, cashiers, porters, managers and other staff for the 24-hour casino and store. Construction on the truck stop is approaching completion, with an opening expected in early July, Lovelock Mayor Mike Giles said last week.

A job fair flyer posted around Lovelock says the new casino will open on July 1.

"We plan to hold the job fair at the Big Wheel even though it won't be completed, at least applicants will be able to see the property on the inside," Dena Wiggins said in an e-mail. Wiggins is human resource manager for Baldinis Sports Casino in Sparks, owner of the Big Wheel Casino.

Preliminary interviews may be conducted at the job fair, Wiggins said. Casino and/or management experience would obviously be a plus, she said.

Heidi Lusby-Angvick, coordinator for the Pershing County Economic Development Authority, stressed the importance of being well prepared for the job fair and possible interviews.

"I personally would look professional and ready to work even if you're just picking up or filling out a job application," she said this week. "It's important to make a good first impression."
