LOVELOCK - Bethel Baptist Pastor Scott Davis and his wife Andrea have pastored the Lovelock church for a full year as of April 10. The couple says, "We're here to stay."
The church will celebrate its one-year anniversary on April 15 with a potluck dinner after the morning service. Davis invited the public to come to the service and celebrate with the church.
During the last year the church's congregation has grown to an average Sunday attendance of around seven to 11 people, Davis said.
Sunday School classes for adults and children are now available. There is also now a Tuesday evening Bible study with a prayer meeting following the study.
The church has also had two showings of the youth movie "To Save a Life"; the second showing had 22 people in attendance.
The Davis' said they are prepared to show the residents of Lovelock that they can trust them and their teachings.
"It's a trust issue. Preachers come and preachers go. But we've come and we're staying," Davis stated.
If community involvement can obtain trust the pastor and wife team are well on their way to gathering that trust. The couple is involved in many community efforts. Andrea is the vice-president of the Lovelock Domestic Violence board. Davis and his wife are members of the Frontier Community Coalition and the couple volunteers at the Lovelock Community Food Bank. Davis is helping in the developing stages of the Drug Endangered Children team that will foster children taken out of drug houses.
"We're here to serve, not just trying to get our name out there," Davis said.
"We just want to show the people here we care about them. We call Lovelock home now," Andrea said.
