BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A 23-year-old Battle Mountain man died as a result of injuries suffered in a single-vehicle roll-over accident on the evening of June 27, authorities said.
Alexander Kovis was driving a Toyota SUV when it rolled on Beacon Light and Skyline roads at 7:45 p.m. Kovis was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest on its passenger side. He was taken to Renown in Reno, where he later died, according to Lander County Undersheriff Robert Quick.
There were three people in the car, including the driver. In addition to the driver being ejected, one passenger was also ejected, said Quick. The ejected passenger was taken to Renown with serious injuries. The second passenger was treated and released at the scene. This person was wearing a seatbelt, Quick said.
The names of both passengers were not released. They were 21 and 22 years old and both from Battle Mountain. Quick said it is under investigation whether or not the two who were ejected were wearing seatbelts.
The cause of the accident and the speed the vehicle was traveling were under investigation as of June 28. Quick said that it was early in the investigation so information was limited.
