BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity volleyball team picked up two wins in three matches last week.
The Lady Longhorns (1-7 Ruby Mountain League, 12-11 overall) played host to Pershing County on Tuesday, Oct. 18, and beat the Lady Mustangs 22-25, 25-20 and 18-16. Battle Mountain was on the road the next day (Oct. 19) in Spring Creek and lost 25-26 and 25-14 to the Spartans. The Lady Longhorns closed out the busy week Saturday with a 25-20 and 25-23 victory at White Pine.
Andresa Dinwiddie had six aces and five kills for Battle Mountain against Pershing County, with Dallas Schroeder adding three kills and three digs. Brooklyn Quintana and Kaleah Torgerson each had five assists and Torgerson finished with five aces.
In the loss to Spring Creek, Quintana had four assists and three aces, while Caitlyn Warwood ended with three digs.
Gabby Penola had a team-high four kills in the win over White Pine. Schroeder and Dinwiddie added three kills apiece. Quintana had seven assists to lead the Lady Longhorns to go with three aces. Torgerson had five assists, while Dinwiddie and Warwood finished with four aces and three digs, respectively.
"We played very well all week, even in the loss to Spring Creek," said BMHS head coach Roger Wallock. "White Pine beat us in our first match of the season and we had been gearing up all year for a chance to measure our improvement. The win against them shows how much we have improved this year, and it was nice the girls were able to do it on the road."
Battle Mountain concludes its season Friday night, hosting White Pine at 5 p.m.
