Battle Mountain JV girls drop home game to Lowry Wallock leads Lady Longhorns with six points

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity girls basketball team played host to Lowry on Friday, as the Lady Bucks made the short trip east on Interstate 80.

The Lady Longhorns (0-2 Ruby Mountain League) trailed 13-0 at halftime and were defeated 35-12.

Rachel Sigurdson scored seven points for Lowry in the first quarter to help build the advantage. Amanda Wallock snapped the Battle Mountain scoreless streak with a 3-point field goal with 6:29 left in the first half.

The Lady Bucks used a jump shot by Sigurdson and two free throws by Meg Montero to build the lead to 17-3 before Wallock hit another 3-pointer with under a minute left in the first half. Itzela Martinez also contributed a basket as time expired in the opening half.

Battle Mountain was held to four points in the second half, scoring two points in each of the final two quarters. McKenzie Huddleston and Jade Harkness had the two baskets for the Lady Longhorns.

Lowry went on to outscore Battle Mountain 16-4 in the final 16 minutes.

Wallock led the Lady Longhorns with six points, coming off both her 3-point field goals. Martinez, Huddleston and Harkness each had two points.

Battle Mountain was scheduled to travel to Spring Creek on Tuesday afternoon. Results were not available at press time. The Lady Longhorns head to White Pine on Friday for a 3 p.m. tip and West Wendover on Saturday at 11 a.m.
