BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain High School junior varsity boys basketball team lost to Lowry 51-23 at home on Friday afternoon.

The Longhorns (0-2 Ruby Mountain League) were held to eight points or less in every quarter, including five points in three of the periods.

The Buckaroos scored the first five points of the game, beginning with a 3-point field goal by Josh Shaver. David DeAndreis gave Battle Mountain its first field goal of the game with less than two minutes left in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 7-3. Frank Peters added a bucket near the end of the first period to make the score 11-5, but it was all Buckaroos after that.

Lowry began the second period with a 15-2 run to build a 26-7 advantage. Hunter Naveran then made the first of his two 3-point field goals to end the spurt, as the Buckaroos led 26-10 at halftime.

Lowry increased its lead to 18 points at 28-10 before Jesse Jones and Dominic Valles hit back-to-back shots for Battle Mountain to cut the deficit to 28-16.

The Longhorns got no closer, as the Buckaroos went on a 23-2 run to lead 51-18. Battle Mountain scored the final five points of the night.

Jones and Naveran led the Longhorns with six points, while DeAndreis added four. Jacob Johnson, Valles and Peters each had two points and Worth Nelson one.

Battle Mountain was scheduled to travel to Spring Creek on Tuesday afternoon. Results were not available at press time. The Longhorns head to White Pine on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. tip and West Wendover on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
