BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Battle Mountain High School recently completed an extensive self-study as required by the Northwest Accreditation Association.
This process is done every five to six years and is a critical part of the school improvement cycle. The school has looked closely at five standards, each with several sub-standards. and judged themselves from a 1 to a 4 on nationally developed rubrics.
The five main standards are: Purpose and Direction, Governance and Leadership, Teaching and Assessing for Learning, Resources and Support and Using Results for Continuous Improvement.
In addition, the staff has closely analyzed a multitude of data in areas of graduation, attendance rates and drop-out rates, testing results, ninth grade success, ACT scores and other data measuring our students' ability to be successful after high school.
Another critical component to this self-study is the extensive surveys that were completed by parents, students and staff. The survey results, as well as comments shared by those responding, have been viewed and discussed by the high school staff and will be incorporated into the school's goals, objectives and action steps designed to improve the school in all areas.
The results and analysis of the self-study is all compiled in a report that is then reviewed by an outside team of other education professionals.
The review team visited Battle Mountain High School on May 7. A final report will be available and presented to the Lander County School District Board of Trustees sometime in June.
