Battle Mountain High School opens fall sports season

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Even though school has not started, the Battle Mountain High School fall sports season gets underway this weekend.

The Longhorn junior varsity and varsity football teams play host to Lowry on Friday night in non-conference games at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

The Battle Mountain varsity volleyball team will take part in the Yerington Tournament on Friday and Saturday, while the JV squad is in Ely for the White Pine Tournament. The varsity squad is scheduled to play Whittell at 10 a.m., Sierra Lutheran at 3 p.m. and Dayton at 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 in Yerington. Bracket play will begin on Aug. 25.

After traveling to Winnemucca on Friday, Aug. 31, and Saturday, Sept. 1, for the State Farm Invitational, the Lady Longhorns make their home debut Friday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 8, when they host the Longhorn Invitational.

The Battle Mountain girls golf season opens Thursday in Round Mountain at 10 a.m.

The Longhorn boys and girls soccer teams travel to Spring Creek this weekend for the Spring Creek Invitational and are back on the road to Fallon on Friday, Aug. 31, and Saturday, Sept. 1, for the Fallon Tournament. Battle Mountain's first home soccer match is Tuesday, Sept. 21, against Elko, with the girls starting at 3 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.
