BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team continues to show marked improvement from the start of the year.

The Lady Longhorns hosted schools from the 1A and 2A on Friday, Sept. 9, and finished third with a team score of 476. Round Mountain won the tournament with a 439 and Elko's JV was second at 460. Wells (479), White Pine (483) and West Wendover (494) rounded out the team scores.

The Lady Longhorns improved their team score by 245 shots from the opening week in Round Mountain. Battle Mountain was led by Bria Jones, who shot a 108. Cassidy Torrence carded a 117, Jordan Hammill a 127 and Jessica Jones a 139.

The Northern 1A and 2A schools were in Wells last Thursday and played in a scramble format. Schools from White Pine, Battle Mountain, Wells and West Wendover were on hand to play. The schools return to Chimney Creek Golf Course in Wells for a league match on Thursday, Sept. 29.

This year's state tournament will take place on Monday, Oct. 10, and Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. There is no regional tournament to qualify for the state tournament. As long as a school has participated in a regular-season schedule, it is eligible to play in the state championships.

The next scheduled meet is set for Thursday in Ely at 10 a.m.
