Groundbreaking for the Battle Mountain General Hospital Community Services Center (CSC) was held on Aug. 7.
The CSC will be 12,500 square feet and house Lander County Emergency Medical Services, Lander County Community Health Nursing, Lander County Community Mental Health Program and the Women's, Infants and Children Nutrition Program.
Kathy Ancho, BMGH Board chair, said, "The Community Services Center is the realization of a conversation that began almost 20 years ago when we started serious discussions about the future of healthcare in Lander County. It is exciting that we are finally seeing these community services all located in one convenient location on the hospital campus."
Phil Hanna, BMGH CEO, added, "I really appreciate all the support I received from the Board of Trustees to make this project a reality and I am excited that we will be able to move directly to planning other exciting changes and improvements at BMGH."
Hanna also mentioned that it is gratifying to hear all the positive comments from the State Health Department about the fact that Lander County has been leading the way for the state in co-locating community services.
"It gives me special satisfaction when we rural folks can show everyone how to do something correctly," he said.
Core Construction is the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the project and CTA Architects from Boise helped design the building.
Based on the present schedule, the CSC will be completed in March 2015. The project will cost approximately $4.5 million and will be paid entirely from hospital reserves set aside for this type of community project.[[In-content Ad]]
