Battle Mountain Burners Car Show to be held Aug. 25

Event to feature all types of cars, raffle prizes, kids games

WINNEMUCCA - The Battle Mountain Burners will be holding their third annual car show at Elquist Park on Aug. 25 and many people have already registered.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and people can register ahead of time or at the event, said Alicia Price, the club's secretary. It will go until around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.

"It's a good family fun-filled day," said Price. "They can see cars and we've got lots of kids games."

The event will include all types of cars - classics, vintage, muscle cars, sports cars, modern modified - and motorcycles.

As of Aug. 11, there were 23 cars signed up for the show from all over Northern Nevada including a 1934 Ford Tudor Sedan, a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 and a 1993 Corvette. Price said she is expecting more than 100 cars to be in the show.

The registration fee is $25 per car and includes a T-shirt, a dash plaque and a goodie bag. The winners of the show will be announced at the park the following morning. There will be 27 classes and the winners will receive plaques. The car show entrants will serve as the judges.

The event will include a beer garden run by the Burners, lots of food vendors, a Poker Run, Trivia and kids games.

The vendors will include Indian tacos, kettlecorn and hotdogs and hamburgers. The kids games will include a coloring contest, an egg/spoon race, a cookie roll game and a Hot Wheels race.

The kids games will start around 1 p.m. The pool will be open to the public. It will be free for car show entrants. There will be two raffles. One raffle will be for a Chevy small block engine that was purchased by the club. Raffle tickets for that are $10 each.

The second will be a general raffle for a variety of items that were donated by individuals and businesses inside and outside of the community. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

The Poker Run will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will have a cash prize. Each car show registrant gets one entry to the Poker Run. Additional entries are $10 each.

After the show, there will be a drive-in movie at Elquist Park at 8:45 p.m. that will be free to the public, said Price.

The Burners hold a car show each August. The last car show was held at Elquist Park and saw around 100 cars and close to 300 spectators. Cars and spectators came from all over Northern Nevada including Wells, Winnemucca, Fallon, Ely and Eureka.

The proceeds from the car show will go toward next year's car show and toward community charities.

The Battle Mountain Burners have 15 members and have been in existence since 2009. Brian Garner serves as the president.

Price and her husband, Todd, will be displaying at the car show Turner's truck, a 1978 Ford, and her husband's 2008 Shelby Super Snake.
