BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Barrick Gold of North America presented a donation check of $15,000 to the Battle Mountain Recreation Center, a newly formed organization that is working to build a community recreation center.
Sarah Edgar from Barrick Cortez presented the check.
"It's exciting to see the large amount of community participation and positive results from initial surveys and studies. A recreation center will provide a great benefit to the Battle Mountain community and our employees," Melanie Lawson, community relations representative for Barrick said.
"We are very thankful to Barrick for their generosity," Jessica Arky said. "Improving the quality of life for the residents in our community and providing healthy opportunities for people of all ages is important to our core group of committee members. We appreciate that Barrick acknowledges and supports the benefits that this initiative will bring to Battle Mountain. "
This donation will support the planning phase of the facility. The project is currently in the feasibility phase after having wrapped up the community assessment in late August. The feasibility study will help determine the nature and scope of the future facility. Sands Development Consulting is working with the committee to oversee the community assessment and feasibility study.
The mission of the Battle Mountain Recreation Center will aim to improve the quality of life for residents by providing youth development services, recreational opportunities, health enhancement services and community development through facilities and programs that build a healthier spirit, mind and body for all individuals regardless of ability to pay.
Battle Mountain Recreation Center is a recognized organization with the state of Nevada. The organization is currently working to achieve 501(c)3 status with the federal government.
