BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Barrick Cortez's Health and Safety Department helped to make Thanksgiving a day to be thankful for by donating four red wagons and holiday dinners to Battle Mountain families. They gave the wagons to the families on Nov. 26.

"This program is to help give back to the community," said Charlie Beatty, superintendent of the Health and Safety Department. "It's about living well and sharing the wealth."

This is the third year for the program. The department gave away a total of six wagons. Two of them went to Crescent Valley families.

Beatty said Barrick Cortez gave the wagons directly to the families but selected them based on the recommendation of the Family Resource Center.

"I think it was awesome," said Jana Moyes, executive director of the Family Resource Center. "I think it was a wonderful thought and gesture."

The recipients were the Rosa Diaz family, the Ginger Smith family, the Yadira Farias family and the Dawnette Arrollo family.

Barrick Cortez purchased the wagons for $140 each and they were assembled by the members of the Health and Safety Department, Beatty said. The total value of each wagon with the food was around $250.

Barrick regional bought the turkeys and members of the Health and Safety Department donated the rest of the food that included gravy, yams, pumpkin pies, soda, five-pound bags of potatoes, apple juice, dinner rolls, green beans, onions, marshmallows, chips, dips, eggs and more.[[In-content Ad]]
