Barbara Lockhart Echevarria

March 15, 1927 - June 25, 2012

Devoted Mother, Faithful Wife, Loving Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt

On June 25, 2012, Barbara Lockhart Echevarria slipped peacefully from this life into the next. Barbara was born to Robert Washington Lockhart and Marie Posey in Santa Ana, Calif. Her mother died when she was three and she was raised by her father. After living in towns throughout the western United States, Barbara settled in Winnemucca, where she met her future husband Joe Echevarria at 16 when he came to the movie theater where she worked. They married four years later on April 5, 1947, after World War II ended. Two sons were born to the marriage, Robert Michael and Joseph Patrick.

Barbara was a loving mother who would do anything for her sons, and later for her grandchildren. She was a talented professional seamstress and along with Joe imparted a sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic to her sons. Barbara loved her family, extended family, and living in the pink house on Melarkey Street. Her world was full, and it was all she wanted.

Barbara passed away surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her sons Mike (Ginny), Pat (Marty), five grandchildren, Joe (Jana) Echevarria, Ali Echevarria, Clint (Becky) Echevarria, Adriane (Jake) Tibbitts, and Jake Echevarria, five great grandchildren, her sister Delores Weller and stepsister Barbara Dufurrena; preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepmother Harriet Lockhart, half-sister Rose Thompson, and stepsisters Pat Laca, and Betty Buxton.

She will be interred next to her husband at the Paradise Valley, Nevada cemetery. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Paradise Valley School.
