LAS VEGAS - Lower prices at the pump continue to be enjoyed by Nevada motorists as prices dropped another 2 cents in one week. All major metro area showed decreases of at least 5 cents last week, according to the AAA Nevada monthly gas survey.
North Las Vegas won honors for having the state's lowest pump price, in metro areas tracked by AAA, with drivers paying an average price of $3.20 per gallon of unleaded regular gas last week. Elko registered Nevada's highest price, at $3.52 a gallon, a decrease of 13 cents from last month's average price. A year ago on this date, Nevada's average gas price was $3.41 per gallon of unleaded regular.
"Gas prices statewide moved lower following the end of the summer driving season and Thanksgiving," said Cynthia Harris, AAA Nevada spokesperson. "Plentiful supplies, flat demand and falling crude oil prices combined for welcome relief at the pump for motorists for the upcoming holidays."
The national average price of gasoline has fallen nine of 12 days since Thanksgiving. This follows a streak of 15 consecutive daily increases leading up to the holiday. Last week's national average price at the pump was $3.26, which is 8 cents more expensive than AAA's November report, but fractions of a penny less expensive than one week ago and 8 cents less than the same date last year.
The highest average price of gas tracked by AAA in the nation was in Hawaii. New York and Connecticut were tied with the highest contiguous state average price for regular unleaded gasoline. The price there was $3.93 per gallon. The lowest price, at $ 2.91 per gallon, was found in Missouri.
