Austin to hold wine walk and sunset dinner Sept. 14

Event to feature 10 to 12 businesses and tri-tip dinner at Stokes Castle

AUSTIN - Austin is gearing up for the Prospector's Dream Wine Walk and Sunset Dinner to be held Sept. 14. The wine walk is slated to include 10 to 12 businesses throughout the town and will be followed by a tri-tip dinner at Stokes Castle.

The walk begins at 2 p.m. and the dinner begins at 5 p.m., said Dee Helming, secretary for the Austin Chamber of Commerce and Close-Up adviser, who is the main organizer for both events.

"Come spend a nice fall afternoon visiting our local businesses and take in the beautiful sunset," Helming said. "It should be a great time. Everyone should come to Austin and spend the weekend."

The wine event is being organized by the Austin Chamber of Commerce and will be followed by a tri-tip dinner, hosted by the Austin high school's Close-Up group, made up of juniors and seniors hoping to raise funds to travel to Washington, D.C., and New York in April 2014. Proceeds from the dinner will go to Close-Up.

The cost for the wine walk and dinner is $25 per person in advance and $30 on the day of the event and includes a souvenir glass. For those who just wish to enjoy the dinner, the cost is $10. Tickets are on sale now at the Lander County Courthouse in Austin.

The walk begins at the Austin Museum and ends at Stokes Castle Road, Helming said. She added that she is expecting 50 to 60 people to take part in the dinner and wine walk, the same amount of people that turned out for the event held the past two years. The event is in its third year.

The goal of the event is to acquaint residents with their local businesses as well as to bring tourists to town and promote local businesses, Helming said.
