BATTLE MOUNTAIN - In the early hours of Sept. 28, Austin junior and senior high school students participated in the Big Creek Run. This annual fundraiser provides funding to support students participating in Austin athletics and extracurricular activities.
Students take a bus into the Toiyabe mountain range and start the run at the Big Creek campground. They run and walk - and sometimes crawl - along the base of the mountains until they reach their final destination almost 13 miles later at the Austin rodeo grounds.
Parents and community members provide water and snacks along the way and host a lunch at the park at the completion of the event. Austin students thank all the businesses and individuals who pledged support.
Tyler Young was the only one to run the entire 13 miles.
