Aurelia Cole, age 83, passed peacefully Jan. 13, 2015, at her home in Winnemucca of COPD complications. Aurelia was born in Battle Mountain Nov. 12, 1931, to Genaro and Carmen Lopez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Justin Saragoza, and sister Angela Gonzalez White. Aurelia started school at Getchell in 1937, and had lived in Winnemucca since 1944 when the family relocated.
In 1949 she married Antonio Sanchez, who died of cancer in 1951, leaving her and their son Tony Sanchez. Aurelia retired after working many years as a nurse's aide at Humboldt General Hospital and the Harmony House Manor, a job she loved.
Aurelia is survived by her son Tony Sanchez and granddaughter Rikki Sanchez of Winnemucca; granddaughter Amber Sanchez of Fernley, sister Josephine Nordan of Reno; brother Alred Gonzalez (and Helen), and nephew Glen Gonzalez (and Tonya) of Winnemucca; eight great grandchildren, and an extended family of Battle Mountain, Elko, Reno and California.
A gathering of family and friends will be planned later.
