RENO - The University of Nevada, Reno Latino Research Center and the Center for Student Cultural Diversity will hold a special celebration for all graduating students of Latino heritage this week.
On Friday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union more than 200 Latino students will be recognized for this milestone achievement.
Friends and family members of the students, along with elected officials, community and university leaders, will be attending the event.
Assemblywoman Irene Bustamante Adams will be the keynote speaker, highlighting the importance of Latino graduation as an academic achievement.
Bustamante Adams was the first Latina in Nevada history to obtain an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from UNLV. She is also active in the community on a local and national level, serving on boards and councils in addition to her role as assemblywoman.
The celebration will begin with a formal ceremony including Bustamante Adams' speech, awarding of La Promesa (a prestigious cash award) to one selected student, and the granting of certificates for all graduating students. Food, dessert, music and dancing will follow.
