On Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, Arthur V. Clark IV of Battle Mountain went to be with God. Known as Battle Mountain's Arty Clark, Art departed after a ten year battle with kidney failure.
Arty was born in Fallon on March 30, 1976. He lived in Battle Mountain for most of his life. Art is probably best known for his accomplishments in high school activities and being Art and Cindi Clark's oldest son and Branson Clark's big brother.
As a child, Art started playing football and wore "Doctor Death" on the back of his jersey. By the time he finished wrestling in junior high school he had a record of 36-0 with 33 pins. Art was well on his way to being a great athlete.
In high school Art was a varsity three sport athlete for the four years he attended Battle Mountain High School. Also, Art was a member of Honor Band and Honor Society. In his high school years Art won four Nevada State high school wrestling championships and was honored as a High School All-American wrestler and ranked third in the US by wrestling USA his senior year. Art was Nevada state freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling state champion three consecutive years. Art was voted one of the top ten student athletes in northern Nevada by the RGJ. Being chosen as Outstanding wrestler was one common place at tournaments during Art's wrestling years. Art played guard in the Sertoma Football Classic. Art's high school wrestling record was 167-7.
Art attended Lassen College in Susanville, Calif., after high school. Art wrestled while at Lassen and earned a degree in Math and Science. After Lassen College Art attended Colorado State at Gunnison, Colo., where he wrestled and earned a degree in Psychology. After Art's undergraduate schooling he earned a Master of Arts Degree at UNR in Counseling and School Psychology. Not satisfied with his Masters, Art pursued more studies post-Masters in various education and technology classes at UNR. And, in 2010 Art became certified to be a teacher.
Art started teaching at Carlin Schools this year. Art was very excited to become a teacher and planned to coach the Carlin Junior High School wrestling team. Art told his dad Art Clark III, he was extremely excited to be working with the staff at Carlin High School and Principal Janet Alexandar. Days after he started teaching Art contacted his dad with a text message that read, "the love of children will keep me going."
On May 21, 2010, Art received a kidney from his father, Art Clark III at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Calif. Arty's parents Art and Cindi Clark stood by their son's side during the very difficult times as he suffered through kidney disease since his junior year in high school.
Art had many friends! Art's best friend and most loyal companion was his dog "Boss." Art enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, four wheeling, hunting, fishing, hanging out (laying on the couch) at his home in Battle Mountain with his mom and dad, with the fireplace blazing, and playing his guitar.
Art is preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Arthur V. Clark Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff and Ann Robinson of Boulder City. Also his uncle Rick Smith and his most beloved brother Branson Clark.
Art's surviving family are his father and mother Art and Cindi Clark, Battle Mountain, James and Nancy Clark-Cross-Sylvani-Rhode of Boulder City, sister Dianna Servello Easton, Mass., and her family Rick, and Willy Cross and their families, Elk Grove, Calif.
