BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A Christmas concert will be held in Battle Mountain on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to get people in the holiday spirit. The theme is Christmas Carols from Around the World.
Accompanying the concert will be a viewing of what is slated to be more than 100 nativities that starts at 6 p.m.
The nondenominational annual Christmas Musical Fireside and nativity display is being hosted by the LDS Church.
The event, now in its seventh year, will include an hour of nativity viewing, followed by the Battle Mountain Ward Choir performing "Christmas, A Carol Cantata," said Ellie Layton, ward music chair. The cantata will feature a chime and there will be two narrators.
The choir will consist members of the church and the community. They have been rehearsing twice a week since November, said Layton. Soloists from the community will also perform and there will be a duet as well.
The show will also include performers playing an organ, an oboe and a piano.
"I think it is a way to celebrate the birth of our savior through music," said Layton. "This gives people a chance to reflect on their own personal testimony of Christ as our savior."
Woodra Bullock is coordinating the nativity display. She said that last year there were more than 100 nativities.
"It really puts you in the Christmas spirit," said Bullock. "I think it is a great opportunity to visit with those that you might not see throughout the year and it's wonderful to see just how many different nativities are out there and it puts Christmas into perspective. The display of nativities is a reminder that no matter what religion you are we all worship the same God and we all believe in the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ."
After the musical portion of the event, refreshments will be served while people are browsing the nativity displays.
The last day to sign up to display a nativity is Dec. 12. Those wishing to display a nativity should contact Bullock at (775) 635-9123. The nativities should be dropped off between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 15.
This is the seventh year in a row for the musical portion and the fourth year the church is including a nativity display.[[In-content Ad]]
