LOVELOCK - The Friends of the Library Christmas Craft Fair is a seasonal Lovelock tradition. Many local crafters plan and create all year long for this one event.
This year's event hosted 22 vendor booths with a variety of items from woodworks by Karen Stephens to crocheted hats and scarves by Pam Munk to handmade candles by Susan Fox; adding that hometown hodgepodge to the local Christmas shopper's list.
"We've had a really good turnout of shoppers and a nice variety of vendors," Pershing County Librarian Kathy Brinkerhoff said.
"There has been fantastic community involvement," said Friends of the Library member Sharon Tucker.
The Christmas Craft Fair is the main fundraiser for the group that supports Pershing County's public library. They also have a gently used book sale at the library to collect funds for the children's activities at the library.
Tucker invited anyone who would like to become involved with helping the library to attend the Friends of the Library's monthly meeting held on the second Monday of each month; call the library for more information.
The annual Christmas Craft Fair also provides local nonprofits with the chance to do a little fundraising. The Frontier Community Coalition raffled goody baskets, Lovelock Frontier Days sold gourmet coffees and snacks and Santa came down, all the way from the North Pole, to help the Lovelock Relay for Life.
"I just thought it was cool that we had all the way from babies, to little kids and teenagers, to adults and seniors all posing with Santa," Relay for Life co-chair Valaree Olivas said.
The group gained $265 for the American Cancer Society by selling photos with Santa, Olivas said. She invited everyone to visit the Lovelock Relay Facebook page to view the photos.
