Anne Uraneck Stone, 102, of Lovelock, Nev., died at Life Care Center of Reno, Feb. 19, 2013.
Anne was born in 1910 in Austria. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was three. She graduated from high school in Hinsdale, Ill., then graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in education, and also attended the University of Nevada for graduate courses. She taught in a one-room school house in Glenview, Ill., Prairie View, Ill., and second and third grade in Lovelock from 1949 until she retired in the 1980s. She loved teaching and especially second and third graders. She was a strong advocate for education.
In 1948, she married William Stone and the couple lived in Lovelock. Bill owned the Big Meadow Texaco Service Station. Anne was a member of Lovelock's Grace St. Francis Community Church. She was a member and officer of the local AARP, a volunteer for the Marzen House Museum, senior citizens, Rebekah, retired teachers, study club. She and Chester Hanson delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years. She loved her art classes and some of her art was hung at the county library.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband Bill Stone, daughter Annelle Stone Halsey, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Vallandingham, of Reno, three grandchildren, Pamela Saralegui, Adam Halsey, of Reno, and William Vallandingham in Okinawa, Japan, and two great grandchildren, Nicole and Jessica Vallandingham in Okinawa, Japan, seven nieces and one nephew.
No service will be held. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Pershing County Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, Box 974, Lovelock, Nevada 89419, in her memory.
