ELKO - The Nevada Conservation Corps, a program of AmeriCorps, is accepting applications for seasonal volunteers to work outdoors in eastern Nevada. Successful applicants will receive a $3,500 living allowance for the summer, paid semimonthly; and upon completion of service a $1,468 education award that can be used to pay student loans or tuition to a Title IV accredited college.
Team members will be stationed in Ely or at Great Basin National Park, outside Baker, Nev., and will construct and maintain trails, and conduct fuels reduction and habitat improvement projects in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management Ely District, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Ely Ranger District; Great Basin National Park and state agencies.
Length of appointment is from May 20 through Aug. 15 and includes a one-week orientation period. Applications must be submitted online at americorps.gov, available through the following link: http://1.usa.gov/ZglpHl.
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen 17 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. Selected individuals must also successfully complete a check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and a federal criminal background check to be eligible for service in AmeriCorps.
