RENO - AmeriCorps members at the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation and the Winnemucca Nevada Outdoor School positively impact education, public safety, health and the environment in rural Nevada.
Recognizing AmeriCorps members' impact in Nevada, Gov. Brian Sandoval has joined the nationwide celebration of AmeriCorps Week, March 10 - 18, by declaring AmeriCorps week in Nevada and saluting AmeriCorps members across the state.
"AmeriCorps members provide vital services to rural Nevadans to address needs that might otherwise go unmet," said Shawn Lecker-Pomaville, CEO of Nevada Volunteers. "These programs operate in partnership with nonprofits and government entities such as school districts, county government and federal land management agencies. We are so proud of the service our AmeriCorps members give to help rural Nevadans improve the quality of life in their communities."
The Nevada Outdoor School taught 52 Red Cross classes to 2,299 participants, taught natural science courses to 12,426 students in Humboldt County and served 3,205 seniors congregate meals and delivered 2,944 meals to homebound individuals.
