WINNEMUCCA - The Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps program enrolled 20 AmeriCorps members during the 2012-13 grant year. These members served all across northern Nevada, from Reno to Wells. Host sites for the AmeriCorps members included Friends of Nevada Wilderness, Lander County School District, Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, Pleasant Senior Center, Humboldt County School District, Friends of Black Rock High Rock, Winnemucca Community Garden, Winnemucca Ministerial Association, Wells Family Resource Center and Nevada Outdoor School.

AmeriCorps members have served for more than 12,000 hours since Sept. 1, 2012. They have recruited and managed more than 900 volunteers and these volunteers have provided more than 3,400 hours of service to their communities and AmeriCorps host sites.

AmeriCorps members and Winnemucca community volunteers were honored for their service at a recognition dinner on Aug. 6 at Las Margaritas.

The Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps program is funded through a grant from Nevada Volunteers in Reno and a representative from Nevada Volunteers also attended the recognition dinner. AmeriCorps members who served with the Nevada Outdoor School program this year are: Brenna Archibald, Tanya Baxter, Thomas Cassell, James Freeman, Ashley Hanson, Julie Hepp, Julie Holland, Barbara Ludington, Shauna Maurer, Joe McDonald, Michael Myers, Brian Nelson, Irene Sarinana, Michael Sirianni, Amanda Smith, Kristen Tester, Steve Thompson, Terra Webber and Henry Woolley.

The Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps program has been expanded from 20 members to 27 for the 2013-14 grant year. The NOS AmeriCorps program still has both half-time and full-time positions available.
