RENO - Nevada Volunteers, the Governor's Commission on Service, encourages all Nevadans to embrace the legacy of Dr. King to commit themselves to service.
Nevada Volunteers funds AmeriCorps*State programs, which support members across Nevada, who commit themselves to a term of service, including the National Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy of serving others.
In Winnemucca, join the Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps*State Program at the soup kitchen located in the United Methodist Church in Winnemucca to distribute essential care packages and prepare lunch for those in need on Jan. 20 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Can't volunteer on the 20th? Donate items to help complete the essential care packages including: First Aid Items (band-aids, anti-bacterial cream, etc.), Deodorant, Toothbrush/toothpaste, Disposable Razors, Shaving Cream, Gloves/hats/scarves, Lotion, and Chapstick.
"Service is a powerful way for citizens, nonprofits, the private sector, faith-based organizations, and government to work together to meet critical needs," said Amber Martin-Jahn, executive director of Nevada Volunteers, "MLK Day is an opportunity for those of us unsure about what to get involved in to find opportunities across the country."
