RENO - This past July in Reno, 31 Mine Rescue Teams from across the United States gathered at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center for the annual National Metal/NonMetal Mine Rescue Competition.
After three days of outstanding competition, the Surface Mine Team from Newmont Mining's Carlin Mine was awarded the National Title. This is the first time a team from the state of Nevada has won the National Title.
Throughout the years, Newmont Mining and its employees have been a great community partner with the American Red Cross. Through hundreds of volunteers hours, sponsoring events in northern Nevada, and corporate and employee giving, the American Red Cross is thankful for its partnership with Newmont Mining.
In recognition of winning the National Mine Rescue competition and its outstanding commitment to the American Red Cross, the Red Cross will be honoring Newmont Mining at 9 a.m. on Oct. 17 at Newmont's North American Regional office (1655 Mountain City Highway, Elko).
Representatives from the Red Cross and Newmont Mining will be present for the presentation. For additional information about the event, please call Willie Way with the Red Cross at (702) 249-3918.
