Elko - The American Red Cross, Northern Nevada Chapter, recently recognized Newmont Mining Corporation and employees for their continued support of the local branches of the American Red Cross.
"The support that the Red Cross has received locally from Newmont and its employees has been instrumental to our services we've been able to provide to the communities of Elko, Battle Mountain and Winnemucca," stated Bailey Billington, Disaster Preparedness and Response coordinator.
The Red Cross over the past year alone has helped provide emergency assistance for 30 families who have lost everything in home fires; train hundreds of youth and community members about being prepared for disasters; and provide emergency communication for Military Members and their families. Newmont also provides CPR/AED and first aid training through the Red Cross and their mine rescue teams.
"We wish to thank Newmont employees for their commitment to supporting the communities where they work. We along with other organizations could not do the work we do without their continued support over the years. We look forward to continuing our work with Newmont and the community," Billington stated.
The Northern Nevada American Red Cross chapter area covers 87,000 square miles with a population of more than 670,000 people. The chapter's territory is from Tonopah north, with our main chapter in Reno and branch offices in Elko, Incline Village and Winnemucca.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies more than 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
