The schoolchildren at Winnemucca Grammar School filed into the gym and sat in a semi-circle on the floor, surrounding the Christmas tree and piano that stood in the center of the room. Parents and grandparents filled the bleachers, and younger siblings darted from mom's grip and then back again. Teachers wore their Christmas sweaters, some even with their own lighting.
The annual WGS Sing-Along took place on Friday afternoon, and the rainy day could not put a damper on the cheerful, young voices that filled the air.
The children sang traditional Christmas carols such as "We Three Kings," "Silent Night," "O Come All Ye Faithful," "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "Away in the Manger."
They also sang the more secular Christmas songs such as "Up on the Housetop," "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer," "All I Want for Christmas," "Here Comes Santa Claus," and "Jingle Bells."
They were accompanied on piano by Kathy Graham, and led by music teacher Mike Gillem.
The children performed each song with much gusto. They were so enthusiastically singing the first part of "Jingle Bells," that they forgot the "dashing through the snow..." verse. Gillem reeled in his young performers and reminded them of the next part of the lyrics which they then sang impeccably.
Friday was the last day before Christmas break and the little people could scarcely contain themselves. After the lively musical performance, Principal Doreen Kitras said she hoped everyone had a fun-filled Christmas and that each child stayed safe over the break until they were together again.[[In-content Ad]]
