Editor,
I saw a magical event in the park in Lovelock. There were local kids performing Native American songs. A puppeteer brought his lovely little figures to life, to everyone's delight. A beautiful girl did unbelievable hula hoop feats. Two local women, Nina and Shelby did a beautiful performance of sign put to music. All local northern Nevada artists, musicians and Fire Dancers put on a most incredible show.
This all took place on July 20 at Almhurst Strip Park. It was put on by a group called "Compression Art & Fire 2014." It contained local arts and culture, youth activities, tribal arts, controlled burn and lots more. It was a blast!
When it got dark we were treated to a fabulous light show. It came from iron towers shooting out burst of propane flames producing outrageous percussion sounds while the fire dancing crew entertained the cheering crowd.
I'm surprised the spectacular burst of flame did not stop traffic on the freeway. It was so surprising to enjoy such a professional show.
The all-volunteer crew did this at their own expense with no government support. They did it very well indeed and I hope we have more of it in the future.
As a Lovelock resident, I wish to thank all involved, especially Jennifer Osborn, for this very well organized and incredibly performed special treat of a show.
