A winning essay

Silver State

Do you think "Silver State" should remaion our nickname? I do. The reason why I think so is because silver was important.

Nevada is called "Silver State" because lots of silver was mined in the 1800s. Also, silver was the primary mineral mined in Nevada. Surprisingly, Nevada mined 30 percent of all the silver mined in America.

Another reason it should remain our nickname is because it helped the Civil War. Silver was turned into bullets. They they could have enough bullets for the Civil War.

The last reason it should remain our nickname is because it will remind us about the 1800s. Nevada had a lot of silver so we were a rich state. Silver helped us become a state, too.

As you can see, silver helped a lot of things back then. "Silver State" is a great nickname.
