Local, longtime Winnemucca resident Gladys Robinson celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, Nov. 1. Family and friends gathered at her home on Sunday to commemorate the milestone.

Robinson, whose maiden name was Davis, was born on Nov. 1, 1914. She and her family came to the Humboldt Basin in the 1930s. Her parents, two brothers and one sister moved into a small house in Davey Town, a mining camp on Sand Pass Road.

Her father owned a gold mine located in the Slumbering Hills, and the head frame of the mine still stands today.

On Sept. 23, 1936, Robinson married her husband Clyde when they eloped by train to Reno. The couple moved to Winnemucca, and for the next 20 years, she was a homemaker. She and her husband raised two daughters, Anne and Betty, and four sons, James, John, William (Neeley) and Erle.

Robinson also worked at the Humboldt Hotel and Stockman's Store for a number of years.

She has 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1984, and she continues to reside at their small farm, just outside of town.

Robinson is assisted by volunteers of Retired Seniors and Volunteers Program (RSVP), and her son Neeley. According to their website, the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP is a nonprofit organization which provides services to seniors.[[In-content Ad]]
