BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Every year the Battle Mountain Family Resources Center hosts a community Christmas Festival for anyone to come and enjoy.

On Dec. 10 the doors of the Battle Mountain Civic Center were open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. for families to come in and spread some holiday cheer with several different vendors selling crafts, toys, gift items, bake sale items and more.

There was a table set up for kids to just come over and sit down to build or create a crafty ornament or gift for someone. Kids could get their pictures taken with Santa Claus by John Sandru Photography.

As advertised there was food, games, bingo, kids, crafts, carolers and vendors. The vendors had plenty that would make great gifts for that special someone on the list.

After spending the day at the Battle Mountain Civic Center guests took a break to bundle up and go outside to enjoy the annual "Parade of Lights" hosted by the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce. This year the theme was "Salute to America and Peace on Earth." The floats were so beautiful with holiday decorations and red, white and blue in honor of the troops whom are home, coming home and still serving; they are in everyone's thoughts throughout the holidays.

There were approximately 13 floats, including several cars from the Battle Mountain Burners sporting some holiday lights.

The floats were all well decorated for the theme and every business, organization and individual that was in the parade did a great job. Battle Mountain parades are exactly what small-town parades should be: expressive, creative and always satisfying to their audience.

After the parade guests were all welcome to head back to the Battle Mountain Civic Center, where volunteers from the Battle Mountain Family Resource Center were still spreading holiday cheer in the form of marshmallows for roasting over an open fire. This little part of the annual Christmas celebration is greatly looked forward to by everyone in Battle Mountain. After watching the parade the warmth of the open fire or the inside of the Battle Mountain Civic Center is a welcome ending to the evening as it winds down.

The Battle Mountain Family Resource Center volunteers hosted the Annual Community Christmas Festival and the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce hosted the Annual Parade of Lights. The community Christmas celebration seemed to please its audience and now it is time to spend the rest of the holidays with family and friends.
