WINNEMUCCA - The public is invited on Monday, May 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Humboldt County Cooperative Extension 4-H Meeting Room for a LEGO Robotics presentation and hands-on demonstration presented by FIRST.
FIRST representatives along with 4-H Program Assistants and 4-H youth from Lyon County will be on hand for this fun and informative event. FIRST is a 501©(3) not-for-profit organization devoted to helping young people discover and develop a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). This collaborative program is for youth ages 6-18.
Jr. FLL (ages 6-9) allows kids to explore the world of robotics and build actual working models using LEGOs and moving parts, work in small teams where they learn to program their models and learn how to present their ideas to an audience.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics (ages 9-14) allows kids an opportunity to work in small robotic teams and design, build, program and compete in challenges using the FIRST LEGO challenge missions. Each team uses the LEGO NXT Mindstrom robot which introduces robotics to aspiring engineers and scientists.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics (ages 14-18) offers high-school students a chance to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principals. Teams use a modular robotics platform to conceive, build and compete in a FIRST designed game which is a 12'x12' field in an Alliance format against other teams. Robots are built using a TETRIX platform. This will be a fun and informative presentation and hands-on demonstration.
Come out for an evening of fun and play with the robots that will be on hand for the demonstration. FIRST is a competitive sport. It's a life experience. It's opportunity. It's community.
