A man who is already accused of statutory sexual seduction in a previous case, was arrested April 19 on suspicion of shooting a dog.
According to Undersheriff Robert Quick, Vernon Scott Green, 24, of Battle Mountain called the sheriff's office to make a report. When deputies arrived at the scene in the 100 block of Carson Street, Green reported to them that an unknown male had confront him outside of his home.
Through an investigation, deputies came to suspect the report was untrue and arrested Green for falsely reporting a crime, discharging a gun from within or from a structure or vehicle and the inhumane killing of an animal, Quick said.
The incident occurred on April 18 at around 11:20 p.m. The dog was shot in the head and died on scene, Quick said.
District Attorney Angie Elquist said she would review the case as soon as she got it from the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office said right before the newspaper deadline April 28 they had just sent the case to her. It was unknown at that time whether or not charges would be filed.
Green already has a preliminary court hearing set for May 20 for a charge of statutory sexual seduction involving a 14-year-old girl. He was arrested March 4 in the lobby of the sheriff's office. His arraignment was held March 7 in the Argenta Justice Court.
On Feb. 27, at 9:20 a.m., the sheriff's office was informed an adult was having sexual relations with a juvenile, Quick said.
Deputies investigated the complaint which resulted in the arrest of Green.
Starlynn Forrest Schneider, 19, was also arrested in connection with the case. She was taken into custody at the corner of Broad and Eighth streets on March 5 and charged by the district attorney's office with neglect of a child and principal to statutory sexual seduction.
