Joseph (Joe) Gerald Poche’ Sr, 87, passed at home in Winnemucca, NV on June 11, 2025, after an extended illness.
Joe was born on April 10, 1938 to Henrietta Lamoureaux Poche’ and Ned Poche’ Sr in Thibodaux, LA.
He was the eighth of ten children.
Independent by nature and entrepreneurial at a young age, Joe spent many hours fishing in the bayous, working at the movie theatre, doing housing construction with his father and brothers, and raising rabbits and chickens in the family backyard to sell.
Immediately after high school graduation, Joe enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, with his career being in Air Control Warning (ACW) and Air Police.
He spent 1 year abroad in Morocco, and 3 years stateside. While based in Morocco, he took Lifeguard Survival Training with the Navy Frogmen.
Out of a class of 22, he and another airman were the only ones certified to become open water lifeguards.
Near the end of his military service, he was stationed in Condon, OR, where he met his wife, Judy of 65 years.
After an honorable discharge, he farmed with his wife’s family. While he was farming he was offered an apprenticeship with Pacific Power & Light, in the High Voltage Power-Line Construction.
He continued in this line of work for the next 40+ years in Oregon and Northern Nevada, retiring from NV Energy as a Working Journeyman Lineman Foreman.
His family time was spent hunting, creek fishing, gardening, and continuing his fondness for raising chickens, rabbits and goats.
He is survived by his wife Judy; three children: Kim (Brett); Tina (Clyde) and Joseph Jr. (Penny); grandchildren: Nicholas, Elisa, Danika, Aaron, Casey and Kallie; great grandchildren: Kayla, Ava, Harper, Gavin, Jackson, Arya, Ryker and Mia.
Joe is also survived by three sisters: Henrietta, Joyce, and Camilla; and brother: Ronald Jr, all of Louisiana, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Henrietta; sisters Evelyn, Gertrude and Gloria; and brothers Ned Jr. (Sonny) and Lloyd.
To honor Joe’s wishes there will be no services.
His heart of this world may have failed but his spirit was stubbornly strong and his love will always be with us, as ours is always with him.
