New equipment and upgrades for Channel 14

K14KQ Channel 14.2 is now officially KPHS . The call letters were changed when Channel 14 renewed its FCC license in October. It remains a low-power UHF TV station broadcasting from the Pershing County High School. On Oct. 25, the Pershing County Television Advisory Board approved funds in the amount of $10,000 a year for the next five years for the purposes of improving Lovelock’s only local television channel’s programming and services. Shelly Nee, PCHS Media Specialist in charge of KPHS, says there are a lot of new and exciting things happening with the station.

“News4 in Reno is now our official sponsor and mentor station, this means that students and staff will be working closely with News4, Fox 11 and NSN broadcasters during our expansion,” Nee said.

Nee also reported that KPHS has received many upgrades including a new Emergency Alert System (EAS), a new in-studio switcher and two new IP controlled Pan/Tilt/Zoom Cameras.

Seeds to Salsa Series

This year, there are five teachers and over 75 students helping Nee create content for the channel.  Melissa Jones’s Ornamental Horticulture students recently filmed a fishing excursion for a segment of their television series called, Seeds to Salsa. In this episode, students traveled to Rye Patch to catch catfish for their aquaponics system.
