Esquivel, Peters earn top-10 finishes at the 3A State Golf Championships

Lowry High School’s Landon Esquivel and Cal Peters recorded top-10 finishes at the NIAA 3A State Golf Championships last week at Mountain Falls Golf Course in Pahrump. 

Those finishes earned the duo all-state honors

Esquivel carded an 82 on the first 18 holes on Tuesday, May 17, and finished with an 85 on day two to tie for fifth place with Pahrump Valley’s Kasen Moore at 167.

Peters, in his final high school tournament of his career, finished in a tie for ninth with South Tahoe’s Liam Molesworth at 174. 

Peters, a senior shot 88 on the first day and improved by two strokes to 86 on the final 18 holes.

They were the only two golfers for the Buckaroos at the state tournament.

Truckee, the Northern 3A champion, brought home the state title with solid rounds of 335 and 339 for a 674. 

Pahrump Valley, playing on its home course, was second at 700.

Fernley (718), Elko (737) and Boulder City (765) rounded out the team scores.

Truckee’s Gabe Smith won the individual title at 144, which included a second round 68. 

He won the title by 18 strokes, as North Valleys’ Easton Perez was second at 162. 

Truckee’s Reed Loper (163), Legacy’s Vincent Kyle Forbes (163) tied for third.
