In an unusual mid-afternoon match-up, the Lowry High School girls basketball team hosted Truckee on Monday, Dec. 19.

The contest was made up after being postponed earlier in the year.

Like many of its games this season, Lowry got off to a quick start, leading 18-0 and settled for a 56-20 victory.

The Lady Bucks improved to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Northern 3A. The current winning streak stands at 28, dating back to last season.

Mia Hernandez and Savannah Stoker combined for 14 of Lowry’s 26 points in the opening period, as Truckee made its first field goal with a minute left in the first quarter. Lowry was leading 22-2 at the time.

The Lady Bucks broke the game open in the second quarter with a 14-0 run, with eight of those points coming from sophomore Britain Backus. She finished the night with a game-high 19 points.

Miranda Draper, Hernandez and Stoker also had buckets in the second quarter, as Lowry led 40-8 at halftime.

Backus added nine more points in the third quarter, as the Lady Bucks opened up their largest advantage of the game at 51-10.

The Wolverines scored the final six points of the third quarter and did not score again until hitting a 3-point shot at the buzzer to end the game.

Stoker scored 12 points, Hernandez eight, Alexandra Barocio and Autum Sanchez four each, Belen Barocio three and Bryce Brinkerhoff and Sydnee Pettis two each.
