Pershing County girls basketball team slams Smith Valley in non-league play

Their momentum keeps building.

Last Saturday the PCHS girls basketball team traveled to Smith Valley for a non-conference game. They beat their hosts with a final score of 47-22.

“We were able to create turnovers and turn them into points. The girls are getting more comfortable on the court together and it’s starting to show,” said coach Lee Houston.

With the win the girls improved to 6-2, overall.

They hosted Virginia City on Wednesday, Dec.21, for their first home game of the year. Results were not available at press time.

Kaydance Happy led the scoring against Smith Valley with 12 points. Anna Happy added nine. Raegan Burrows, Aaliyah Allen and Taylor Garland each scored six points.

“These games are gearing us up for league play that is right around the corner,” said Houston.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the girls travel to Portola, Calif. They’ll play their first league game of the year at home against Incline on Friday, Jan. 6,  at 6 p.m.
