The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team returned to its home floor this past weekend to face off against a pair of Lyon County schools.

Battle Mountain made easy work of Silver Stage on Friday night, beating the Nighthawks 25-4, 25-8 and 25-17.

The Lady Longhorns were on the opposite end of the results on Saturday, as Yerington won in three sets 25-15, 25-16 and 29-27.

Against Silver Stage, the Nighthawks scored the first point of the opening set, only to see the Lady Longhorns reel of 16 points in a row.

Aylea Ramos had six aces during the 16-0 run, as Silver Stage had problems with its serve-receive defense all night.

Shea Jones and Yezzel Guizar also picked up aces in the opening set, and Lauryn Avey added a block and Brynnlee Freeman had a kill to close out the opening-set victory.

Battle Mountain scored the first six points of the second set, with half of those points off of aces by Ramos. Freeman had a kill during the opening run of points as well.

The Nighthawks closed the gap to 5-2, but the Lady Longhorns quickly pulled away and led 17-4, behind another kill by Freeman and aces from Jones, Guizar and Lilliana Haney.

Jones finished the set with two straight aces.

The third set was tied seven times, the final time at 9-9, when Marena Fuller gave Battle Mountain the lead for good with an ace.

The Nighthawks stayed within striking distance throughout the final set, when Freeman and Bailey Elderkin finished the match with a kill and ace, respectively.

Battle Mountain hosts Pershing County on Wednesday at 4 p.m. with the JV match and the varsity to follow. Coral Academy visits Battle Mountain on Friday for matches at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
