The weather is heating up. And midway through the Lovelock Softball Association’s second season, so is the competition. Jim’s Point S and Thick N Wild run neck-to-neck for first place with 7-1 records.
The Swamp Donkeys (6-1), Sandlot Junkies (4-3), Brew Crew (3-4), Cow Tippers (2-5), Weekend Warriors (2-5), Modelo Time (1-6) and Spring Break (1-7) round out the picture. But there’s plenty of season left.
“Before the end, each team will have played 16 games,” said Jared Jensen, the president of the coed adult softball league. Win or lose, the biweekly games have proven a big hit in Lovelock.
On Wednesday, July 3, Raul and Sunshine Rosas played for Modelo Time. On the sidelines, Amare Rosas, 7, cheered for both his parents. Amare pitches during youth baseball season.
Like dozens of other Lovelock families, the Rosas head to McDougal Park every Monday and Thursday evening. The games start at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
According to their Facebook page, the LSA held two raffles to benefit the McIntees. Unfortunately, a family member suffered a health related injury earlier in the season.
Steve Evenson pitched in with six Reno Aces tickets. They also raffled off a Demarini bat and bag. The LSA planned to announce the winners at the July 11 games.
Plans include a home run derby on Friday, July 19.
