The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team split a pair of matches at home this week to Yerington and Whittell, remaining in the hunt for a postseason berth.
Battle Mountain beat Yerington 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Tim Knight Field. Despite having a numerous opportunities in the first half, Battle Mountain could not get a shot in the goal.
The Lady Longhorns finally broke through in the 41st minute on a goal by Sruti Bhakta.
Battle Mountain extended its lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute on a goal by Adrianna Slaybaugh. She was assisted by Bhakta.
Battle Mountain lost 4-0 to Whittell on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors scored two goals in each of the halves.
The Lady Longhorns stand at 6-4-2 in the Northern 3A ‘B’ Division. White Pine leads the league at 12-0-0 and has clinched a playoff spot. Whittell is second at 9-1-2 and also clinched a playoff berth. Dayton (7-5-0) is third. The top three teams advance to the regional playoffs from Nov. 2-4 in Winnemucca.
Battle Mountain travels to Fernley on Thursday for a 4 p.m. start and to Dayton on Saturday for a noon match
