Quilt Show comes to the Civic Center

How the West was Warmed Quilt Show took over the Battle Mountain Civic Center on August 5. The event was a roaring success with great teamwork from vendors, kitchen staff and door greeters. The show was a two-day event and helped show off some of the local quilting talents in the area.

The Quilt Show's admission was $5. Children under 10 years old entered for free. Alongside the quilts, several raffles were held. The tickets cost a dollar or 6 tickets for $5, and the grand prize was a Christmas quilt. “The beautiful Christmas raffle quilt was made by our Battle Mountain Quilt Guild,” said Woodra Bullock, president of the Battle Mountain Quilt Guild.

Lunch and drinks for the quilt show were provided by the Battle Mountain Quilt Guild. The event also featured show quilters Janet Himelspach and Mary Lou Rives.

The Quilt Guild and featured quilters certainly delivered, with several quilted blankets spread out across the large auditorium. Bullock mentioned all the help provided to the Quilt Guild and was so thankful to everyone involved in helping the event take shape.

“This event could not be done without all the help I was provided with,” said Bullock. In the kitchen, Bullock assisted in making large ‘pigs in a blanket’ using a Pete’s Chorizo between the rolled dough. Bullock further thanked her kitchen staff and the door greeters for all the help they gave to make the Quilt Show a success.

Bullock also mentioned how the vendors made the event amazing by providing visitors with short tutorials to use in their quilting projects.

Battle Mountain’s Quilt Shop owner Chris Ripley was present and helped several visitors with tips on quilting. Quilts displayed throughout the Civic Center included several with complicated designs.

Events like this take a lot of work and Bullock was aware of the dedication needed to accomplish their goal. The two-day event packed the Battle Mountain Civic Center with visitors and vendors alike. The event was the center of attention and could overwhelm even the most experienced quilter with all the fantastic work displayed in the building.

The Quilt Show is a bi-annual event that will happen again in 2019. Until then, the Battle Mountain Quilt Guild will be preparing for another great show like the one they hosted this year.
