Bequette named Rookie of the year at PITA trap shoot

His total score for the weekend was 382 out of 400

LOVELOCK - Recently two shooters from the Flying Saucer Trap Club in Lovelock competed in the state PITA trap shoot in Fallon. The two shooters that competed were David Bequette and Michael Schottel, both from Lovelock.

During the three-day shoot, Schottel won his handicap yardage group by shooting 93 out of 100 birds.  His total score for the weekend was 345 out of 400.

Bequette won his class-A singles handicap by shooting 198 out of 200 birds. He also won the state handicap champion by shooting 95 out of 100, as well as state rookie of the year.

Bequette's total score for the weekend was an amazing 382 out of 400.

The Flying Saucer Trap Club will have an appreciation shoot that is open to the public on June 15. Sign-ups are at 9 a.m. and shooting will begin at 10 a.m.

Also this summer, there will be a 4th of July shoot that will be held on July 6, which is also open to the public.

The trap club is raffling off a Savage 22-250 rifle with scope at the July shoot and tickets for the drawing are available at Crazy Corners or by contacting Michael Schottel at 273-0206. The tickets cost $5 each or five for $20.

Following the July shoot, the trap club will be having a Friday night league shoot throughout the summer, in which participants will shoot 25 birds in daylight and then 25 birds under the lights after the sun has gone down.
